btoption (btoption.com) is an options strategy backtesting tool. This page explains what data we collect when you use it, why, and what your rights are. For any privacy question or request, reach us through the contact form.
Usage analytics (only with your consent). If you accept the cookie banner, we use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to collect product analytics: pages visited, actions taken (such as running a backtest), browser and device type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. This may include session recordings of how you interact with the site, in which everything you type is masked and never recorded. If you decline, none of this is collected and no analytics cookies are set.
Error and performance monitoring. We use Sentry to detect crashes and errors. When something goes wrong, Sentry receives a technical error report (stack trace, browser and device information) and may capture a replay of the session around the error with text content masked. This runs in our legitimate interest of keeping the service working.
Backtest inputs. The strategy description, ticker, and date range you submit are stored on our servers so we can run the simulation and serve you the results. They are not linked to your identity unless you also provide an email address.
Email address (optional). If you enter an email to be notified when a backtest finishes, we use it to send that notification and associate it with your analytics profile. We do not send marketing email and we do not share or sell your address.
Contact form. Messages sent through the contact form (with optional name and email) are delivered to us as email and used only to respond to you.
We set no analytics cookies until you accept the consent banner. Your choice (accept or decline) is stored in your browser's local storage so we don't ask again. You can — the banner will reappear and your previous choice is cleared.
We rely on the following service providers, acting as data processors:
Some providers may process data outside the EU under standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
Analytics data is retained per PostHog's standard retention. Error reports are retained per Sentry's standard retention. Backtest jobs and their results are kept so result links keep working. You can request deletion of any of it at any time.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, and export the personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing that happened before withdrawal). To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact form. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If this policy changes materially, we'll update this page and the date at the top. We do not sell personal data, and we show no third-party advertising.
